WHY ARE REPUBLICANS AND THE RELIGIOUS LOGICALLY CHALLENGED? OBAMACARE, BILL NYE AND OTHERS PROVE THE RIGHT MAY BE INDEED MENTALLY CHALLENGED.

Notice I used the word "mentally challenged" instead of retard in the title and with good reason. When I use the word retard I mean someone who is stupid beyond reason. But, for people with actual mental deficiencies, such as someone with Down Syndrome, that word is hurtful and shouldn't be used in that context. However, if you are still someone how think Benghazi or the IRS were actual scandals, you are mentally challenged. If you believe anything the right says is true without checking with an unbiased source first, you are mentally challenged. If you don't believe in evolution or that the world is over 6000 years old, you are seriously mentally challenged. To be honest, having met many, many people over the years with serious handicaps, I have to tell you, most of them are smarter than most Republicans who I feel mentally challenged people would actually call retarded.

Let's start with the latest round of lunacy from the right and that is, sigh, Obamacare. Can we go one week without the GOP dusting off this old chesnut? After the CBO released information that 2.3 million people would voluntarily leave the work force, the right wing loons jumped all over it, conveniently overlooking one word and screaming about all the jobs lost. Read the previous sentence and take a wild stab at which word that might be.

Seems to me if 2.3  million people decide they hate their job and decide to quit because the only reason they are staying is for the insurance, that is a good thing. This is the kind of thing that spurs new growth and entrepreneurial spirit which helps the economy. Nowhere in the report does it say that millions will be let go by companies downsizing, a common theme by Republicans that, go figure, is not exactly true. Yes some will lose their jobs, and Obamacare will be the scapegoat but, in reality, those jobs were going regardless. This just shifts the blame away from corporate greed which is always the culprit.

The CBO chief did say that the program might give people the "disincentive to work" but that seems suspect as well as people need to eat and pay bills and the only way to do that is work. As someone who lives with a person on disability let me tell you, she is not living high on the hog. We struggle month to month because she makes nothing and people want to pay me nothing. Ain't America great?

The right is also totally glossing over the fact that since Obama took office, he slashed the national deficit in half, now down to just over $500 billion, or a 50% reduction. Yes the national debt is still skyrocketing but that has less to do with Obama and instead is a reflection of thirty years of trickle down economics. Until we get the rich and corporations to start paying their fair share of taxes, that number will continue to rise.

Also this week was an epic debate between Bill Nye and Ken Ham, the founder of the Creationist Museum. Guess who won? If you said Ham, see the first paragraph for what I think of you. I have a degree in Anthropology. I can prove beyond doubt two things: the Earth is more than 6000 years old and evolution is real. The former can be proved by a mathematical formula, using radiometric dating, of the exact age of the Earth which is 4.5 billion years old. There is NO debate on that. Math is math. The latter can be proved as I can demonstrate an almost complete lineage from protoplasm to man with the only grey area the "missing link" between proto man and modern human. There are fish out there with vestigial legs, showing a direct link between ocean dweller and land mammal. And how did Ham debate these incontrovertible facts?

He said this: "The Bible is the Word of God. I admit that's where I start from." Now this is odd, because as someone who has studied the Bible, how it was written and even have seen early texts of it, I can say with 100% certainty that the Bible is NOT the word of God. It is a hodgepodge of different writers from different eras, some of which borrows heavily from ancient Pagan myths, such as the flood and even Jesus, who bears a striking resemblance to Mithra. Look it up and see how much Christianity stole from this religion of Persia. Jesus and Mithra were both born on December 25th, used water baptism and called Messiah. How shocking is that considering Mithra outdates Jesus by at least 600 years?

The Bible is an excellent book on how to live a peaceful, inspective life, if one ignores all the stupid parts. People like Ham latch on to those idiotic segments, written by man, not God by the way, which has been screwing things up for centuries now. Jefferson had it right when he said the only good parts are the Ten Commandments and the words of Christ. The rest is bunk.

Ham's argument against science is that since no one was there to observe any of this, it didn't happen. This is not backed by any credible person anywhere. He also questioned most scientific data as vague and changing and wondered about a recent study that showed modern dogs are decendents from a single pack of wolves which, according to him, backs up his idea that God created animals within the last few thousand years, not realizing that that is indeed evolution, set at a quicker pace than most. The Bible is not true about many things. If you believe everything in the Bible, your God is a schizophrenic dick who screws with people just because and contradicts himself depending on what day of the week it is. The fact that the translation you are currently reading is most likely a distant copy of telephone like proportions from the original text also means that what you think the Bible is telling you, is in actuality, wrong.

The point of all of this is we have become immune to critical thinking anymore and it is damaging our society. Look at the level of incompetence lately. We have an Olympics coming up in Russia in which your wi-fi is compromised, greed stole half the money and some courses are so treacherous, people are quitting. The South couldn't handle two inches of snow. The Port Authority couldn't count a definitive number of people that would be leaving Met-Life Stadium at the same time after the Super Bowl. Chris Christie thinks we all dumb enough to believe he's clueless about his scandals. And so it goes. Unless we smarten up quick, this world is headed for a big, big fall. And all the praying in the world won't stop it.
