FERGUSON DOJ REPORT, MCDONALDS LAWSUIT AND OTHER WAYS BLACK PEOPLE ARE STILL HAVING A FIT FOR BEING BLACK

It is becoming readily apparent at this point that black people cannot separate race from reality any better than Republicans can separate God from their belief system. It seems lately everything is about race, even if it isn't. Oscar snubs? Racism. Got fired for from your job? Racism. Going to jail for killing several white people? Wicked racism. This mind set is dangerous and needs to stop.

Right now, there is a lawsuit being filed in Federal court by 10 fired McDonald's employees who say they were fired because they were black. Now I am not suggesting this case has no merit, it might, but for the sake of argument, let's look at both sides of the case. According to the plaintiffs, they were fired because there were too many black people at the franchise. High ranking supervisors allegedly referred to minority workers as "ghetto" and "ratchet" and that one sexually harassed employees, which begins to sound not likely. This is from MSM.com

The employees, nine of whom are African American and one of whom is Hispanic, said in the complaint that the mass firings of 17 minority staff members came in May and that store managers told them at the time that it was “too dark” in the restaurants and that they “need to get the ghetto out of the store.”

“All of a sudden, they let me go, for no other reason than I ‘didn’t fit the profile’ they wanted at the store,” Willie Betts, who was a cook at one of the McDonald’s franchises, said in a statement. “I had no idea what they meant by the ‘right profile’ until I saw everyone else that they fired as well.”

So what white racist bastard did this? Actually, the owner is a black guy, Mike Simon, who had this to say:

“I continually strive to maintain an environment in which everyone feels valued and accepted. To protect the privacy of current and past employees, I’m not at liberty to discuss issues regarding employment or termination,” Simon said in a statement to the media in May. “However, my organization has a strict policy of prohibiting any form of discrimination or harassment in hiring, termination or any other aspect of employment.”

The complaint states that Simon took over control of the three Virginia franchises in late 2013 and soon after implemented a hiring plan to bring in more white employees — which the complaint alleges prompted a supervisor at one of the locations to exclaim “now we can get rid of the n*****s and the Mexicans.”

So let me get this straight: A black owner is racist because he wants more white people in his franchise, which even if true, is more aligned with racially harmony than an all black McDonalds which may scare away white people coming into your store, thus making you less money.

I have seen first hand all black McDonalds in inner city areas and let me tell you, it's intimidating being the sole white man in a sea of black, especially when you get treated like a second class citizen for it. Several trucker friends who have stopped at places like this and got racially harassed like you wouldn't believe. How is that not racist? But of course, groups like the NAACP, which is beyond worthless after it came out they awarded several white racists with 'humanitarian" awards in exchange for money, are sticking their nose where it doesn't belong. Apparently green is still not racist. Let's here what one idiot said about this from that awful racist group:

“The treatment of these McDonald’s workers seems like it’s out of another era, but sadly the racism is a reality they are confronting today,” said the Rev. Kevin Chandler, president of the South Boston Chapter of the NAACP and vice president of the NAACP Virginia State Conference, in a prepared statement. “The South Boston NAACP will stand with these fired workers until McDonald’s takes responsibility for the inhumane treatment these workers faced in its stores.”

McDonald's may be guilty of a lot of things but this lawsuit seem frivolous. And shouldn't we want racially diverse workers rather than just one, regardless of what race that is? Funny how you do not here about this kind of racially diversity from black people when it comes to sports teams. most of which are 75% black. There is a fine line between equality and superiority, and much like the idiotic feminist movement which has done more damage to women than Chris Brown on a slapathon, seems to be doing more harm than good when it comes to race lately.

Expect more teeth grinding from the black community when the DOJ releases their findings later this week clearing Officer Wilson of any wrong doing in the Ferguson case. Truth be told, Mike Brown, just like Trayvon Martin, asked to be shot as all the evidence points to that being the reality here. He wasn't gunned down in the street with his hands up. That never happened. It was a lie, deliberate or not. However, the Eric Gardner case is a whole other matter and I hope the DOJ arrests that thug cop for killing an unarmed black man there for such a minor crime.

And of course, some will riot or block traffic all the while shouting "hands up, don't shoot," which is a lie that never occurred but why let the truth get in the way of a good looting. They will fail to see the gains they have made with a black president, a black attorney general and hundreds of thousands of rich, well off black people coast to coast. If you really want equality, stay in school, get good grades and most importantly, stay out of jail. Do that and see your circumstances increase somewhat. It still a sucky job market for anyone regardless of race and the constant revolving door of black men and prison has got to stop or else an entire generation will be lost. Black women are finding that out and outnumber men in Congress ten to one. If you are black and female and want to get ahead, the world is your oyster. Men could have the same if they stop acting like an idiotic thug for two seconds. Cool is cool, but it doesn't pay the bills, it doesn't make you tough, and it most likely will wind you up in prison and a wasted life.

Black people have the power to stop this. It's too bad they keep blaming whitey for what they are ultimately responsible for. God made you black. Stop damning him for it and deal. I have several black friends and some still live in the worst neighborhoods you can imagine. But they are trying to better their lives and stay straight. Most importantly, they are not blaming the white man for their problems.

OSCAR SNUBS AND WHY RACISM IS NOT THE ANSWER

Much is being made as to why there were no black and/or female nominees to such prestigious pictures as Selma, Unbroken and, of course, The Lego Movie. To be honest, the one true snub of those mentioned is the later as that one was one of the best pictures of the year (and should have been up for Best Picture let alone animated feature). Some have speculated about "race fatigue" as last year saw 12 Years a Slave win and a black actress win for best supporting female performance. The honest truth is however, that maybe black films were not as great as last year, and truth be told, were not.

Take Selma for instance. David Oyelowo was missing from the best actor category this year. And while this snub may seem harsh, the cold reality is that there were a lot of great performances this year. Can anyone not deny the fact that Steve Carell disappeared into his role, a drama at that? Or that Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne nailed their period piece biographies? And say what you will about Birdman or American Sniper, but both of the actors there gave top shelf levels of acting in those. So while Oyelowo was ignored, you can't say those that got it in his place were less deserving.

The one place I think the Academy may have gotten it right is snubbing female directors this year. From what I've read, as I have seen neither movie, Unbroken was directed not all that well and Selma made LBJ into a racist. That I find unforgivable. The director, Ana DuVerna, is her first directing job and it shows. The fact that she says her film is "only a movie" and that truth is subjective is disingenuous at best and dangerous as worst. I have hated some movies in the past that play fast and loose with the truth.

Take Gladiator for example. This won best picture that year and was by and far the worst movie I saw. If I hadn't gone with someone else, I would have walked out on it. They took one of the most evil emperors ever, Commodus, and turned him into a sniveling weasel who would beg his sister to sleep with him. In reality, this prick married several of his sisters, as that was the custom at the time, and they had no say in the matter as he was, theoretically, a God and had they behaved like the woman in the movie, would have been executed stat. He also fought in the Coliseum against gladiators which would have been a far better movie if they used that for him to fight against Russell Crowe instead of him cowering in the stands. None of this was even close to real life and some are going to see this movie and think that's how Rome really was, instead of a Hollywood invented reality.

Thus my problem with Selma. The younger generation which is already a group bordering on retardation will come out of this movie thinking LBJ was a racist dick who fought against black rights. For that alone, I think it never should be nominated for Best Picture. I hate when movies distort reality that makes people think things that never happened. My biggest problem with the first god-awful Transformer flick wasn't the stupid story of mindless plot but a scene that takes place during a tour of the Hoover Dam where every single thing they tell the audience about the structure is wrong. It's like the writers have no concept of how the Internet works. How many kids saw that movie and come test time about the dam, flunked because of nonsense they heard from films like this?

Facts matter and there was no good reason to slam LBJ except for the fact that maybe we should leveling racism charges against the director. Why is a white man, who in reality fought hard for black people, made into some sort of KKK leader? How is this acceptable?

To show how racism, when it doesn't exist, permeates our society I give you this example. While reading the news the other day, I came across a story about how people were calling a restaurant racist for serving fried chicken, collard greens and mac and cheese for MLK day. Even I thought at first, that's a little racist. Then, as I read on, I found out those were actually MLK's favorite foods and the owner of the restaurant was a black woman. That is the type of knee jerk reaction we seem to have lately where even the perception of racism is making people stop and think where none exists and that is a serious problem.

We have got to start integrating our societies better and a good start would be to eliminate all black colleges that seem to fly in the face of reason. Growing up, I went to a school that was 99% white. In college, I met many black people some of whom are still my friends today. My exposure to the black community demonstrated that much of what you hear is myth and most of them are fine people. But if you go to all black college, you do not get that exposure and, as a result, may become just as racist as a KKK member. Black people need to stop white shaming and start looking at a lot of problems caused by their own. White people are not killing black people in huge numbers. Other black people are. But until they stop with blaming white people for their own problems, nothing will change.

Al Sharpton is calling for some sort of protest against the Oscars this year for not having more black nominees. Maybe he should be looking at directors of films like Selma for making her film more racist that it needed to be.

THE SEAHAWKS, STOCK MARKETS AND OTHERS THINGS GOING DOWN

The Patriots put an ass whooping on the Colts yesterday in a blowout, beating them 45-7 in a contest that was never in question. Of course as it is the Patriots, cheating came up as no one could ever be this great without it right? Deflate-gate, as it is being called, suggests that the Pats deflated the balls to make them easier to carry and throw. Nevermind the fact that the laws of physics state a ball with less air is also less aerodynamic, the Patriots would have no way of switching the balls out (the refs do that) so that the Colts would have the same advantage.

Allegedly, a ball was weighed by a ref and it was found to be less which could be because of the awful weather and not cheating but why let that get in the way of a good story. It would also have to explain why the Colts couldn't run, couldn't pass, couldn't block or do literally anything that a football team need to win a game. Did the Patriots perform some voodoo ritual to achieve this? Please! But because the Pats go caught "cheating" before (they taped signals from the opposing teams to read what they were doing), everyone assumes this is that mini-scandal all over again. This to me sounds like sour grapes over a team firing on all cylinders.

The Seahawks are going down come Super Bowl Sunday. Sorry Deadliest Catch crews but this one is not going to be like last year. We are still coming to grips with two loses to the dreaded Giants, one ruining a perfect season. Brady needs a fourth ring to tie Namath and Montana. Deal with it.

Meanwhile, in news that actually matters, China's stock market today is crashing hard, down 8% mainly due to huge losses on the derivative market thanks to Switzerland's surprise de-peg of the Euro. For hard proof that our stock market is based on lies, it rose almost 200 points Friday, ignoring the fact that one of the largest currency exchanges shut down as it's stock declined 80% in pre hours trading and never opened all day. Had it been allowed to sell, the Dow would have dropped at least a 1000 points with it. Instead, Wall Street ignored all the facts that say "look out below" and went on a feeding frenzy. This, combined with huge losses on the energy market, may spell doom for the derivative market, a true black swan event, which in turn will decimate the world economy.

Should the derivative market fail, hundreds of trillions of dollars will come due, to which there is not enough money on Earth to actually pay it back. Some are suggesting this move comes as some countries prepare for the end of the Euro, a move that would stagger the world. It is not entirely out of the question as this currency is being hampered by horrific austerity policies that have made things worse. Instead of asking the rich to pay more out of their swollen numbers, they instead went after the poor and middle class which had little money to begin with. It was noted today that half the world's wealth is owned by 1% of the population which is unsustainable, unless you're some sort of adjunct economics professor, like Mark W. Hendrickson of Grove City College in Ma, who claimed in an op-ed piece this week that economic inequality never destroys civilizations, except for the dozen it so times it provably did. And this ass is teaching kids stuff that is not only wrong, it's dangerous. It would be the same as if a History Professor started teaching about the great Wazoo race of the country Narounmbo or any science teacher showing creationism as fact. This dick needs to be fired and as he doesn't have tenure, should be. Income equality destroyed cultures like Rome or France. What a fucking tool to say the wealth gap is no big deal.

Luckily the stock market is closed today but tomorrow may be a big shock if negative interests rates, now seen throughout Europe, come here. Many see this Swiss move as the same as rats leaving a sinking ship, which the Euro may now be, as the decisions made to save said currency are impalpable to the elites, which would have give up at least a third of their ill gotten gains to survive. As they are completely unwilling to give up one penny of their wealth, and the poor and middle class are beyond tapped out, disaster looms. With a possible end to the derivative market, and with it bank deposits as the most recent Cromnibus bill put the banks losses bank on to FDIC shoulders which is why we had to bail them out to the tune of tens, perhaps even hundreds of trillions of dollars, in 2008 as the world economy was going to collapse if we didn't give into their demands, we are screwed. Worse, some of you out there, like Hendrickson, see no problem with this, as well as voters who for some inane reason voted back in 90% of the incumbents with a current approval rating of around 10%. That is some world class stupidity people and we will all pay dearly for it.

DOUCHEBAG OF THE WEEK: BARACK OBAMA

Proving I do not play favorites, our President hit new lows this week in not sending a high level representative to Paris even though Eric Holder was already there and then pandering to democrats in a preview for the beyond worthless State of The Union Address (Why is this still a thing? If I want to be lied to, I'll ask my fiancée how I am bed) where he states that he wants lower taxes for the middle class, which he could have done at any time but waited until he has no chance of implementing it now. What a dick. Let's see those runner ups.

10)Muslim Bashing- Look, I get it. Muslims are far from popular right now. It doesn't help that they are constantly misinterpreting their own book, worse than just about anyone else and that's saying something. Here's three thing that are NOT in the Koran: 72 virgins, women must wear bee keeper outfits and a ban on images of the prophet Mohammed. None of that is in there anywhere but morons who can barely read have been told it is and thus the protests. But on the flip side has been a truly stunning lack of understanding about Muslims in general and unnecessary hostility has arisen in it's place. This week, Duke University was going to the do a call to prayer from their church only to get a LOT of hate for it. Nevermind the call to prayer is actually quite beautiful and not all Muslims are evil, people got their panties in a bunch and the University backed down to racists. Just as bad was reaction to Nancy Pelosi's nomination to the Congressional Security Council of an elected Muslim American,  and you would have thought she nominated Osama Bin Laden for the post. The right screamed bloody murder about it, even though there is zero chance this guy is a terrorist. Get a clue people, not all Muslims are bad just as all Christians are not good.

9)George Zimmerman- Speaking of tools, the Zimmster got himself arrested AGAIN this week, this time for chucking a bottle of wine at his now former girlfriend. First off, what idiot is dating this jerk? While I still believe he deserved to get off from the charges he was originally accused of, I also don't like him. And what part of do not do anything to cause the police to look at you again do you not get? This is his third arrest since the trial which says loads about his character. He'll be sharing a jail cell with OJ any day now.

8)Metlife- I was watching TV last weekend when I noticed what can only be described as one of the worst commercials ever. Metlife has been associated with Peanuts for decades now, especially the popular, uber-recognizable Vince Gauraldi song that everyone of any age instantly knows. So what did some brain dead ad executive do? He turned that song into some barely recognizable, superslow version that was putting me to sleep. I used to pay attention to this ad everytime that song came on but this time it barely registered. Some one needs to be fired over this because this ad campaign sucks. 

7)Sandy Hook Parents- I feel bad for these people losing their kids the way they did but this latest lawsuit, of which there are several, is really starting to piss me off. First, a group of victims decided to sue the gun manufactures because of the gun used as if it was their fault. You don't sue Buick when a drunk driver plows into you so why should this be any different? Now they are suing the local school district for not having bulletproof glass, which would have been hugely expensive and never would have been approved as it would have decimated the local budget. This is greed not loss. Get over it already and move on.

6)Free Speech in France and Saudi Arabia- We have been inundated with Je Suis Charlie and I agree with this. However, much like the Duke call to prayer, free speech depends on who is speaking it. France arrested a French-Muslim comic for joking about the attacks and also made some very questionable anti-Semitic remarks. He has every right to say what he wants just as the rest of us have every right to protests his sorry ass outside of his shows and harass any idiot paying to see this dick. However, arresting him for this is too far. Saudi Arabia was no better when they sentenced a blogger to 1000 lashes for "insults to the religion of Islam." For the next 19 Fridays, this guy is publically flogged for this. And these guys are our biggest allies why? Oil. Saudi Arabia has done more damage to Islam than just about any one else, due to their ultra-conservative Wahhabism beliefs. This is why radicalization happens and we continue to not only support them but there is some evidence to support the fact that we are subsidizing them (to the tune of trillions) to use cheap oil as a weapon versus Russia and Venezuela. We need to get off oil and contrary to what you have heard, we could do it this year if we really wanted. And there's the problem, no one in charge wants to.

5)Black Lives Matter protestors- It had not been a good week for black protestors. There was some minor uproar from black writers about the possibility of Angelina Jolie playing Cleopatra in an upcoming movie, saying erroneously that she was black. This shows a stunning lack of knowledge of history, which is every bit as bad as saying Jesus was black as he wasn't. He wasn't white either but Middle Eastern in appearance, assuming he ever actually lived at all. Cleopatra on the other hand was GREEK, or in other words, white and this has been known for some time now. Open a book already guys. And then came the Ferguson protestors to Boston, who truth be told were not black but mostly women, Asians and a few hippies. First the tied up traffic on two major highways, stalling traffic and nearly killing a few people in ambulances who couldn't get through. They went on to say they did this protest in the Boston area because they wanted to highlight the fact that white people come into Boston to work and then go home to the suburbs which is NOT true. Boston is one very white, very expensive city to live in where few blacks live, and certainly not any poor ones. If they wanted poor black people, they should have gone to Dorchester. But the best was after they got arrested and the media is hounding them for comments, they cried and whined about their "mistreatment," and how they needed to got to the hospital. They lost all support in this town and laws are being drafted to make blocking a major road a felony. Thanks guys, because of your idiocy, you are making legitimate protests that much harder. And they wonder why I call the younger generation, Generation Wuss.

4)Bill Cosby- The once great comic is now facing criminal charges from an alleged attack at the Playboy Mansion in 2008. Supposedly he has evidence he was no where near the place at the time of the attack, which may be true and this could be about money, but the fact that over two dozen women have come forward already makes it look believable at face value. His show in Worcester was recently cancelled, which the promoter was thrilled with, as who wants to be associated with him. NBC slammed the door in his face and said they will never work with him again. Time to retire Bill and pray you don't see the inside of a jail cell where you probably belong.

3)The Malarkey's- If you have a last name that literally means bullshit, pulling off an elaborate con is probably not a good idea. In 2004, their son Alex was in an auto accident and "died," where he went to heaven and met Jesus. They wrote a book about it and made a lot of money about this "true" story. The only problem was Alex actually had felt guilty about the lie and came clean that he and his dad, Kevin, made the whole thing up. Poor Alex is still a quad, but he gets points for saying too many people do not read the Bible and live up to the expectations inside. Alex did and good for him. His douchebag father on the other hand is going to get sued up the yin yang.

2)Republicans and Voters- This week we saw John Boehner and Mitch McConnell rev up their base about thing that will never pass like the Keystone Pipeline, the 40 hour work week and defunding the DHS. They are still acting like a minority party, not realizing that as the new majority, they actually have to try to pass bills that will pass, not get shot down in the Senate or vetoed. Mike Huckabee went off on Obama for daring to have his kids listen to Beyoncé, gasp! NWA she's not. But the worst were voters in Virginia who voted for a former democrat, now independent, Joseph D. Morrissey running in a special election for the Virginia Senate. Problem is, he's in jail at the moment for pleading guilty to possession of lewd images concerning his underage secretary who has been rumored to have been sleeping with him. He has threatened to sue if they vote him out of the Senate, but that seems like a longshot at best. It's voters like this why things are so fucked up in this country.

1)Obama- This guy has not had a good week. He started off by inexplicably not sending someone to the Paris rally, not even Holder who was already there. This made the world really bash us and rightfully so. But the kicker is his asking for a middle class tax cut in his upcoming State of the Union address, or what I call  the "let's lie to the American people for an hour and a half." speech. There has never been one good one of these in my lifetime. Here's what makes my blood boil about this. He has had six years to enact any of these provisions and could have easily done it way back in 2009. Instead he waits until there is zero chance of it's passage in a Republican controlled Congress and is now just a talking point designed to make the democrats look good, even though most of them are just like Obama and couldn't care less about this. All they want are your votes and this is blatant pandering. It reminds of Clinton, after leaving office, saying he thought pot should be legal but did the exact opposite for eight years in power. They must think we are all stupid to not know better. So congratulations Obama, you are indeed douchebag of the week. 

OSCARS 2014 AND THE BEST FILMS OF THE YEAR

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times could best describe this year in cinema. The last time films were this uneven was 2007 when I was a professional film reviewer and every week was hit or miss, especially can't suck but did Harry Potter and Simpsons movies. The Oscars that year mirrors this one when art films (and white people) dominated every category. It was the year that Juno inexplicably won for best screenplay and I expect another repeat this year for the truly awful Grand Budapest Hotel. The awards for 2007 were actually worse than this year somehow so there is that.

American Sniper somehow got six awards even though the reviews for it have been iffy at best, demonstrating again that war themed films get preference above all others like the excruciating Zero Dark Thirty last year. Unbroken got shut out, as did the Lego Movie, Jennifer Aniston and almost everything dealing with science fiction, civil rights or Hollywood in general. Almost every major award is going to a low budget, independent project with only Clint Eastwood's American Sniper winning out. While I do not question 90% of the choices (Marion Collard in "Two Days, One Night," really? 12 people have even heard of that film let alone seen it), the fact that we seem to focus on great performances over great films seems stupid and misguided. Every year the Oscars pick a best picture and then most of us never see it and if we do, it's a one time and out thing. How does that make it the best film? My best picks are ones I will watch and re-watch until the disc melts. Here's a quick rundown of what I think will win for the major categories

Best Picture-Boyhood. 12 years to film any movie is impressive and this film certainly was.
Best Actor-Eddie Redmayne
Best Director-Richard Linklater for Boyhood. I will vomit blood if Wes Anderson wins.
Best Actress- Julianne Moore
Best Supporting Actress- Patricia Arquette
Best Supporting Actor- JK Simmons
Best Adapted Screenplay-The Theory of Everything
Best Screenplay- Grand Budapest Hotel. Ugh.
Best Animated Feature- Lego Movie. What do you mean that wasn't nominated? Then Big Hero 6 I guess.

Enjoy what will be just as long and as boring a show as the Golden Globes were this year. Let's see what was actually great movies this year shall we?

BEST FILMS OF 2014

First off let me say I have not seen The Interview, Birdman, American Sniper, Foxcatcher, Inherent Vice, Selma, The Imitation Game, Wild, Whiplash, Still Alice, Nightcrawler or Force Majeure which may or may not have appeared on this list had I seen them. But as I live in a very small town with no art house theaters within a hundred miles of me, I have to wait for DVD for a lot of these. So, for what I have seen, here are my favorite pictures for 2014.

10)Kids Films- Overall, this was not a great year for kids films. Way too many at once and then a drought. Space them out better next time guys. But there were four that I saw that I loved. Big Hero 6 was another hit from Disney and Marvel. How To Train Your Dragon 2 was cute, funny and had an unusual message that sometimes you can't escape from a violent confrontation. Muppets Most Wanted made me a kid again. But the best by and far was The Lego Movie which I still don't see how was not nominated for best animated feature. Subversive and laugh out loud funny is an unusual mix but damn if they didn't pull it off.

9)Comedies- This was NOT a good year for comedies. A lot of stuff fell flat, The Interview failed to play after theater owners acted like giant babies (and resulted in the loss of millions in profits), and some, like Tammy, were more horror movie than funny. Two stood out and oddly, one is on a lot of worst of the year list and is up for a few Razzies: A Million Ways to Die In the West. How is that the worst movie of the year? I found it funny as did my mom and she is hardly the target audience for Family Guy humor. Yes, a few scenes went too far, like seeing NPH's poo filled hat, but most of it was very meta, and very funny. The best comedy however was 22 Jump Street which had me laughing from start to finish even if the previews kind of ruined it like the do every picture. Channing Tatum is funny somehow and Jonah Hill continues to impress.

8)Cooking Movies- I love cooking shows, especially contest ones like Masterchef. This year we had two food oriented ones that were snubbed by the Academy even though they were fantastic pictures. The first, Chef, is Jon Favreau's return to small cinema with this charming tale of a chef and his son buying a food truck and getting back to the basic's of cooking. The sequel Trip to Italy with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon was hysterical, revisiting their dueling Michael Caine impressions while dissecting the last Batman movie all the while seeing fantastic Italian scenery and eating great looking food. My only compliant was that the DVD didn't have a featurette about the food they ate like the first one did, but you can't have everything.

7)Contracted- The lone horror movie on my list in a really weak year of scary pictures. Tusk almost made it but the ending was so stupid I couldn't put it on here. Contracted is a love it or hate film that requires a lot of suspension of disbelief as a young woman has a one night stand that she thinks gives her a STD but is actually far, far worse. Yes, some of the decision making in the film is questionable at best but somehow works in this movie as people do sometimes ignore what is right in front of them. Not for the squeamish, this low budget horror flick has some impressive gore and the plot stayed with me all year. See it with the lights on.

6)Draft Day- The lone sports movie on here with Kevin Costner had WAY too many worthless subplots in it, but the main story about a NFL draft is riveting. My fiancée doesn't like football, or sports in general, and knows nothing about statistics and she loved this movie. Technically not that different from Moneyball, it's is definitely worth a look, especially if you like sports.

5)Prestige Pictures- Boyhood/The Theory of Everything- I am not a huge Richard Linklater fan. 90% of his films, especially the insufferable Before Sunrise films that everyone but me loves, are terrible. But every now and then, unlike Wes Anderson, he does something impressive like School of Rock, Dazed and Confused or A Scanner Darkly. This is one of those films. Shot over 12 years it is nothing more than the story of a boy growing up over that time period. The shooting took one week a year but required some real patience from a producer who wouldn't see a profit for more than a decade. Kudos for a brave movie. The Theory Of Everything was brilliant. I am one of the few people who not only bought Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time but actually read and understood it. To crow about myself for a moment, I also understood that Hawking was wrong about black holes and the Big Bang in it (which he later admitted) but found his concept of string theory fascinating. Tis film shows how he had to deal with being one of the smartest men alive whose body was falling apart at the same time. A love story, a science lesson and a fascinating look at one of the smartest people ever.

4)Spectacle films- Of all genres, these films suffered the greatest. Summer was down 20% from last year and while many are saying ticket prices are the culprit, in actuality it was the shitty pictures they put out this summer. I have never in my life seen worse movies come out over a summer, and that includes 2007, which was beyond dreadful. Few flicks crossed the 100 million mark and with good reason: they sucked. But two stood out. The first was Godzilla and the only Big Budget, non super hero movie to open this summer that I actually saw and liked. Garth Edwards nailed the old Godzilla movies and for once, the trailers actually kept a lot of it under wraps, including the fact that Godzilla wasn't the bad guy in it, which I loved because Godzilla should be the hero. The other was the last Hobbit movie which is the only dragged out spectacle that didn't feel dragged out (Hunger Games I am looking at you). The 45 minute epic battle was awesome and I really am beginning to like the high speed frame rate that Peter Jackson filmed this in. Great ending to a fabulous trilogy.

3)Action Movies- These are always my favorite movies and ones I watch over and over. Expendables 3 was better than many made it out to be with the fantastic return of Wesley Snipes, Harrison Ford actually having fun in a movie and the rest of a creaky cast still kicking butt. Plus the new girl was super hot and super deadly. Raid 2 continued to demonstrate why the rest of the world continues to have better action movies than we do. But the best overall, and one of my absolute favorites of the year was the intense John Wick, bringing back Keanu Reeves to butt kicking glory.  Do not, I repeat DO NOT, kill John Wick's puppy and steal his car. No good can come from it. I cannot wait to see this a dozen times or more.

2)Sci-fi movies- Why Interstellar was shut out for best picture really makes me mad as this was hands down the best film to see in a theater this year. I guess the idiot right didn't like the idea of climate change ruining our planet or something. The scene on the water planet with the 500 foot waves was one of the greatest cinematic moments ever and for it not to be recognized is disheartening. Edge of Tomorrow suffered from a terrible title but proved to be one the better science fiction movies of the year, plus it was kid of funny watching Tom Cruise die a lot in this movie. But the best movie is one that played in all of 8 theaters because Harvey Weinstein is kind of a dick and cut off his nose to spite his face. Snowpiercer was a brilliant piece of work by Korean director Joon-ho Bong about a train that contains what was left of humans after a climate change fix goes horribly wrong driving temperatures into sub zero levels. Funny, thought provoking, this is the kind of film, like Interstellar, that should have been up for Oscars.

1)Super hero movies- A great year for Marvel who had three of the best movies of the year and surprise, surprise, zero Oscar nods beyond technical ones. X-Men: Days Of Future Past combined casts of past and present incarnations to excellent effect with Hugh Jackman once again proving to be far more interesting as Wolverine in these movies than in his stand alone features. Captain America: The Winter Soldier was as thought provoking as it was action packed asking us hard questions about the surveillance state. The plot throws acid on future Marvel story lines which shook up everything from TV's Marvel Agent's of SHIELD to the upcoming Avengers movie. But the best, most surprising film of the year had to be Guardians of The Galaxy. They took a beyond obscure comic, hired actors not well known outside of Zoe Saldana, used a director who had never had a huge budget before, and contained a talking tree and raccoon. It made a gazillion dollars and was my favorite picture of the year. Groot rocks and I could watch this film a hundred times and see something new everytime. That is a watchable film and why it was my favorite film of 2014.

OBAMA, REPUBLICANS, VOTERS AND WHY THIS COUNTRY HAS LITTLE HOPE TO GET BACK ON TRACK

I was going to write about the best films I saw for 2014 but got side tracked with work and now have to write a quicker column. So instead I want to bring up politics as we seem to be having a repeat of the 2012 presidential campaign. Republicans are entering en masse and each one seems crazier than the next. Even the more sober of the two, Jeb Bush and Mitt Romney, both have the stink of past losses and failed presidencies to deal with while the loonies in the Tea Party nominate psychos like Ted Cruz and Rick Perry. Waiting in the wings are certifiable loons like Ben Carson, Mike Huckabee and Donald Trump, making me and every other person who writes comedy clap their hands together in glee. This is going to get ugly fast.

On the left, we have presumed nominee Hillary Clinton with no real contenders to throw her off her game. That's what happened eight years ago when she had it all sewn up until Obama crashed the party and took the nomination from her. It is entirely possible that anyone from Liz Warren to Joe Biden could do the same. She is very vulnerable regardless of the inevitably surrounding her.

The worst part is no matter who we get, chances are it won't matter. It doesn't help when Idiot America refuses to vote for the best candidate and just goes along party lines regardless of how piss poor the person is. Republicans are far worse than democrats with this, as seen in the latest election here in MA, where Martha Coakley lost again because she was and is a terrible candidate and the left isn't as stupid as those on the right to vote against their own self interests.

This was seen most recently when Mike Grimm won a house seat on Staten Island even though it was near 100% certain he was going to jail, not to mention the fact he threatened a reporter on air with bodily harm. Now mind you, the democrats ran a terrible candidate against him, but in that case, no one should have voted for either idiot, which will be my position should 2016 come down to another Bush versus Clinton match-up. Why does the right constantly vote for people with a R next to their name no matter how terrible they are at their job? The same thing happened in CT where voters inexplicably voted for John Roland for governor twice, and then after going to jail for corruption, voted for his successor Jodi Rell. How dumb is that?

Proving that democrats are no better, Virginia takes the cake with a special election in which they voted for a former democrat now independent, Joseph D. Morrissey even though he was in prison at the time. This is from MSM.com

The former Democrat ran his re-election campaign while on work-release from prison, where he was sentenced to serve six months in December after entering an Alford plea to a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He pled guilty while maintaining his innocence in order to avoid felony charges that stemmed from a sexual relationship he allegedly had with his underage former receptionist.

All that legal drama apparently wasn't much of a deterrent for Morrissey's constituents, although it's worth noting that only 6,720 ballots were cast in a district of about 53,000 registered voters, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

The Virginia State House has threatened to expel him and the police are still looking into him for falsified court records as well as looking into further relationship information about the politician and his teenage assistant. We should also have a law that if you fail to get a certain percentage of the vote according to population, we get a do over. Less than 7000 people voting is a sign that they didn't care for any of these idiots.

The politicians we have voted for continue to amaze me in the ineptitude. Obama has had a truly awful hit or miss year in 2014 and got off to another stellar start in 2015 by not sending anyone to the rally in Paris, even though Eric Holder was there in Paris at the time. He is hardly the populist we all wanted him to be, having failed to indict anyone from the bank failures or the torture programs which are literally war crimes regardless what the lawyers keep telling us. I may not like the Geneva convention but anti-torture statutes are a must have still.

On the flip side we have Republicans taking credit for any good economic news even though they have done everything they can to sabotage the recovery. They are still pushing a Keystone pipeline which is a terrible idea. Worse, they keep pushing these government studies that say there won't be any problems from it, even though said studies were funded by pro-Keystone pipeline entities. The Senate is getting read to vote on a referendum on whether climate change is really happened as if that is how science works. And these are the guys some of you yahoos put in charge.

2016 will be here sooner than we'd all like and it looks like another clown car of awful Republicans and a handful of democrats who will also pander to their rich donors and not to America. Any way you spell it, disaster looms and a lot of it is our fault for not demanding more.
