WAR DRUMS SLOW AS INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC CRIES FOWL. "SLAM DUNK" EVIDENCE CALLED INTO QUESTION AS UK AND FRANCE BALKS ON ATTACK.

The rush to attack Syria has slowed considerably over the last 24 hours as the shade of the Iraq war clouds any preparation for such an assault. The old adage "fool me once," comes to mind as many are supremely skeptical of the so called evidence being bandied about right now. Seems the rest of the world, and some in this country, are calling into question the evidence that Assad gassed his own people and rightfully so. Colin Powel, George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and others lied to the American citizen's faces and didn't even get a slap on the wrist for it. Hell, Obama is actively trying to get all civil charges dismissed against his predecessor as seem by recent court documents filed by the DOJ. Why?

As for the evidence, all we know so far is that Israel intercepted a panicked phone call from one low level Syrian Army operative to the base commander of where chemical weapons are stored. We do not know if Assad even knew about this attack, assuming of course that it even came from his people. If it did, it appears to have been not ordered by the Assad regime, a problem for international support. And there is still the very real possibility that Assad had nothing to do with the attack at all and it was a false flag attack staged by the rebels to get much needed support. What few realize is that the rebels are losing. Why fire chemical weapons at innocent people that you already beating, while UN inspectors are on the ground? You wouldn't unless you were dangerously insane, which Assad does not appear to be. All evidence at this point say either a rouge element within the Syrian government or rebel factions ordered the attack, not Assad.

The British have been adamant that Assad was ultimately responsible with a recent report blaming Assad for the attack according to their sources. The report does mention they have no way of proving Assad ordered the attack though. According to both US and UK sources, the rebels do not have the capacity for such chemical attacks, although Syrian and Russian intelligence dispute the claim and have aired video evidence that they do. Both sides have reason to lie here so the truth is again obscured.

Both France and the UK have softened their tone as many within their own country have little stomach for yet another Middle East conflict. The US is following suit as, according to many polls, the public is strongly against any more military action from a society who has had enough following more than ten years of war thanks to W. Many are worried that an attack on Syria may lead to WW3, which isn't that much of a stretch. In Britain, they are debating the case right now but many seem hesitant to get involved in yet another Mid-East crisis where the blowback may end the world.

To be honest, we have our own problems here without butting into what is a civil war. If we get rid of Assad, then what? Experience shows that Islamic extremists take over the country once the strong man has been disposed and make things even worse for US and EU interests. Assad may be a dick but he is not launching attacks against American, European or even Israeli interests at this point. With him gone, the region may go nuclear as a result.

The good news is that the public across the planet is sick of war, sick of Muslim Extremists, and wish the whole thing would just go away already. It sucks that innocent people are getting killed there but we can't be the world's policeman anymore. We don't have the money. This isn't Libya or even Egypt. Attacking Syria without good cause is a bad idea and I am glad cooler heads have prevailed here. It doesn't change the fact that our economy is swirling the toilet right now and that may make any operation moot if the powers that be feels it is the only way to save rich people from being lined up in the street and shot is an attack on Syria. A missile launch is still possible but, thankfully, not as prevalent as yesterday. I hope we do not attack Syria but spend our time doing something worthwhile like creating jobs that pay a livable wage. I can dream.
