CHRIS CHRISTIE AT THE RNC, HURRICANE ISSAC AND OTHER THINGS THAT BLOW

I hate this time of year. As someone who has to write about what is going on in the world, I have to sit through the RNC bullshit fest and then next week get to watch the almost equally awful DNC. It makes me want to shoot myself.

Last night, Ann Romney took the stage to talk about how she met her husband and how great he is and then I had to throw up because I couldn't take it anymore. I had to double back to the bathroom during Chris Christie, looking more like a New Orleans float than Governor, as he spent the first part of his speech with how he became a politician and his background, waiting 1800 words into a 2600 word speech before Romney was even mentioned. I DON'T CARE! HOW ARE YOU GOING TO FIX OUR BROKEN ECONOMY? Then he got to his talking points about how teachers should be happy with the piss poor amount of money they make and how tenure is ruining our civilization. While I would agree that all teachers should have to take a yearly re-certification class, tenure is important, less we have school boards firing teachers for refusing to teach nonsense like creationism or free market enterprise.  Let's look at some highlights from Christie's speech, shall we:

"There's only one thing missing now. Leadership. It takes leadership that you don't get from reading a poll. You see, Mr. President, real leaders don't follow polls. Real leaders change polls."

This must be why your party is hell bent on making abortion illegal under all circumstances and gay marriage punishable by death, which no poll supports. Real leaders look to polls as to what the people want, not pushing your agenda on an unwilling public. That is how dictatorships start.

"Now, I know this simple truth and I'm not afraid to say it: Our ideas are right for America and their ideas have failed America."

This is the party promoting the exact same ideas that caused the financial crisis of 2008. Tax cuts, deregulation, and austerity measures destroyed us and yet here you guys are again living in some Alice in Wonderland country where the past mistakes were all the fault of the democrats and not your unworkable policies that have been proven failures.

"Their plan: whistle a happy tune while driving us off the fiscal cliff, as long as they are behind the wheel of power when we fall."

Isn't this exactly what the GOP did when they had total control over all executive branches? And this is what they want again?

"They believe in teachers unions. We believe in teachers."

This is a blatant lie as unions are the devil to Republicans as they actually provide a livable wage to the average Americans and what the GOP wants is us all living in poverty under a totalitarian rule. Unions helped make the middle class and, as they evaporate (as Camden, NY recently did by firing their union police and hiring scabs to replace them), so goes the middle class. When you wonder why your paycheck keeps getting smaller and smaller remember those unions that you helped defeat is the reason why.

"We all must share in the sacrifice. Any leader that tells us differently is simply not telling the truth."

The middle class is being sacrificed for the elites and that is the truth. My guess Christie is a big, fat liar. Make that a big, obese liar. Let's look at things that he lied through his teeth about.

Christie said he delivered three balanced budgets with lower taxes. He actually cut the state Earned Income Tax Credit for poor people and a once popular tax rebate program for renters and homeowners. His proposed 10% income tax cut has not been accomplished. Poor people were unfairly hurt with these steps. Shocker from a GOP Governor.

Governor Fat Boy also said he took on public sector unions to reform a pension system headed to bankruptcy. Accurate, but the state is still not fully funding the system, meaning it is a temporary fix at best.

Medicare was the biggest bit of nonsense when he said that he was willing to tell seniors the truth about the program changes needed and then never followed up with any specifics, mainly because, under the GOP plan for Medicare, the system will bankrupt itself in as little as five years, with a projected rise in costs for the average 29 year old to be $331,000 more over a lifetime, or in other words, a 100% chance of bankruptcy once you get old if you are not rich. The GOP plan for everything is "get rid of it, it doesn't work," without any plans to fix them instead. I am not saying the democrats have better plans for our future (they don't), but at least they are not going to put us all in the poor house by the end of a Romney administration.

Here's a telling bit of news not getting the attention it deserves. Two attendees were thrown out of the RNC yesterday for throwing peanuts at a black CNN camerawoman while shouting "This is how you feed the animals." This is the GOP for you: racist, homophobic bastards determined to take America back to what it once was: an Arctic region covered in ice.
Meanwhile, Hurricane Issac is taking away a lot from the convention as the storm has decided it really likes New Orleans and wants to stay for a while. The storm was stationary for some time today and even now is only slowly moving out. I have two things to say about this storm.

One, Grand Isle, La. and Plaquemines Parish inhabitants were given a mandatory evacuation order which some chose to ignore. Then they huddled on the rooftops waiting for rescue. YOU WERE TOLD TO LEAVE AND DECIDED TO STAY SO TOO BAD! Either these wastes of space should be allowed to drown or charged for their incompetence that should be levied on them. Shelters were available for all so if you wanted to stay and risk life and limb you should be on your own. These are the same assholes crying about government being the problem but have no issue calling 911 when then are in trouble due to their own stupidity. What do you think government is you backward hicks? Two morons had to be rescued from a levee they were stranded on because there is no better place to be during a hurricane than on a earthen levee that everyone expected to flood, which it did. Get these jokers a Darwin award stat.
Second, people like Bobby Jindal should get ZERO dollars for rebuilding as these fuckwads are the same idiots spouting about how government money is killing the economy but are first in line with their hands out when they actually need the funds. The same deregulation nonsense is the reason we keep rebuilding these shanty towns on the coast with no oversite. A recent study done done by Insurance Institute for Business Home and Safety recently released their findings for the Gulf Coast area. Florida scored the highest at 95 out of 100 and even Louisiana scored an impressive 73 out of 100. Alabama scored 18 and Mississippi got a 4. Why are we allowing these kinds of construction in places were hurricanes happen and the taxpayers get the bill? Isn't this the kind of things we shouldn't be funding? But god forbid we have things like building codes because of the "socialist, Kenyan Obama," or some other similar nonsense. Regulations are being gutted in these red states who cry at the top of their lungs about government stimulus while simultaneously raiding what little money we have left to build crappy structures in flood plains. These assholes should get nothing and like it. This is what a world without government looks like. Enjoy.
Lastly, we find that last months photo op with Romney at Murray Energy with dozens of coal miners "supporting" him, was actually a mandatory attendance policy with anyone not attending getting fired and, of course, no pay for the day for actually showing up. This is the GOP philosophy in action. Do what I tell you and don't ask questions. And don't expect to get paid for any of it.

Murry leaders deny the charge in a crass statement of doublespeak:

This is from Huffington Post

The claims of forecd attendence have been mostly denied by Rob Moore, Chief Financial Officer of Murray Energy Company, which owns the mine. He acknowledges that workers weren’t paid that day but says no one was made to attend the event. Well, kind of.

"Our managers communicated to our workforce that the attendance at the Romney event was mandatory, but no one was forced to attend," he told local news radio WWVA, which has received several emails from workers claiming that the company records names of workers that don't attend those types of events.

The company's interest in having its employees show support for Romney may be a result of its CEO's close ties with the presumptive Republican nominee. In May, Romney teamed up with Murray's CEO Bob Murray for a fundraising event in West Virginia. And Murray's made no secret of his support for the Republican party, previously backing Rick Perry.

In addition, his company has donated more than $900,000 to Republican candidates in the last two years, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Murray, who is also a climate-change denier, has been an outspoken critic of President Obama’s stance on coal. That view may be why Moore told WWVA that having employees attend the Romney event “was in the best interest of anyone that's related to the coal industry in this area or the entire country."

According to the above statement, no one was forced to attend but it was mandatory. Some one get this ass a Thesaurus because those two words mean the exact same thing. Murray is the same guy whose lax safety standards caused the deaths of six miners in 2007 and was fined almost two million dollars because of it. Fifty years ago, this guy would have gone to jail for negligence but now just pays a small fine and continues to put people's lives at risk. In China, he would have been executed. Too bad we don't have similar punishment for this fucknut.

The GOP is trying to end America as we know it and some of you out there are hitting the accelerator by voting for these fools. Not that that the democrats are any better but at least they aren't the climate change deniers Murray and his cohorts are. Vote Obama 2012 unless the US as a smouldering husk is what you want. If he does win, then we need to start demanding real change. And if he won't, the we as a people have to stand up and make him. Both sides are driving us off a cliff with the Republicans doing 150 MPH and drunk. The end is coming. Let's not make it worse.
