TONIGHT'S PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE AND WHAT WON'T BE TALKED ABOUT

Having just watched the latest debate between Senate hopeful Elizabeth Warren and, getting dickier by the minute, Scott Brown, I am well prepared for what will and won't be talked about. In the MA debate, everyone agreed Warren won the night by being prepared and honest, unlike the lie machine that was Scott Brown. As someone who actually lost his unemployment benefits for six weeks due to Brown's voting with the GOP once again to kill unemployment benefits, I was disgusted to hear him tell me it never happened. My bank account, along with tens of thousands of others, beg to differ, douche. His accusations of Warren as a heartless bitch secretly working with Big Business was laughable. Polls suggest he may be on the ropes as Warren is leading an average of 3.3 points among a half a dozen polls and below the margin of error. Good. Go Warren and get let's hope the Senate is held against a Republican party bent on the destruction of this country.

Don't believe me? The GOP has conspired over the past two decades to kill the Post Office (mainly by requiring them to prepay any pension and health care costs which no company on Earth does), obscure any real science about anything that conflicts with their limited world view, and destroy all aspects of the New Deal while giving everything to the rich who don't need it.

That's exactly what is going on and why giant douchebags like the Koch Brothers are spending their money on a private Westworld and not on jobs instead. This country is facing a Grand Canyon drop and neither side is willing to talk about what is really necessary to fix it.

Blame the Supreme Court for a lot of this. The ruling of Citizen's United was the worst ruling in the history of the Supreme Court. Worse than Dred Scot. Worse than the ability they gave corporations to use eminent domain which stemmed from a Pfizer case in buying up local houses to expand their buildings in CT. This latest atrocity gave corporations all the power and now politicians won't champion any case of the little guy as the opposite side will spend billions destroying your campaign, a fact echoed by many a democrat in both the House and Senate.

During tonight's debate, I expect we might hear something about this case and hopefully what the candidates plan to do about it. We desperately need a constitutional amendment to fix this monstrosity created by an idiot court that is rapidly becoming less and less relevant and both candidates should come out against it. Expect heated soundbites on health care, taxes and jobs. That will be the full ninety minutes right there. There will be no talk about the out of control and unaffordable Drug War, the war on poor people, easy fixes which I have talked about at length in this column or any credible way to create good paying jobs that don't require a move to Bangladesh.

What we will hear are pre-planned sound bites and "zingers" which, if Romney's past attempts at humor is any indication, will fall flatter than a pancake being stepped on by Rush Limbaugh. Prepare for Romney to appear robotic and lacking any details. Watch Obama be cool and collective. Wince as both fail to mention any real attempt at fixing anything that is wrong with America.

It is also telling that we only get two candidates rather than the other two running as well, Jill Stein of the Green Party and Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party. Both should be on that stage and would help shape the debate topics that one can predict as easily as Carnac the Magnificent would have. Romney. Obama. The Press. What is a bore, a chore and a whore?

We are facing a real disaster that some economists are warning could be the worst Depression in 500 years. That is not a typo. The type of financial crisis we may experience may dwarf anything we have ever seen in recent history. QE infinity is already causing inflation to rise (which is at 11% and rising not 3% as the government keeps telling us), the derivative market is now trading credit default type swaps that caused the housing crash, and banks, corporations and individuals are selling stocks, investing in gold and spending a ton on underground bunkers. This is not the type of information that leads to good conclusions. When the rich and powerful are saying one thing and doing another, one should pay attention.

Sometime early next year, we face another economic crash, a massive war with Iran and, most likely, foot dragging by the tantrum throwing GOP. On the possibility with war with Iran I would like to state that war with Iran is the last thing I want. However, contrary to liberal beliefs, a nuclear armed Iran is not a prospect I would want either. A religious run theocracy should never have nukes, especially one run by militant Muslims, not unless you relish the idea that some day an insane idiot decides that God has told him to destroy the world and he does. The fact it hasn't happened yet is because the only country that is run by certified nut bags with nukes is North Korea and thankfully they don't have a cultural death wish as Iran does. North Korea should be a wake up call for anyone who doesn't see a destabilizing element with Iran getting nukes. Japan has been held back from nuclear ambitions only because the US has a military obligation to protect them under any attack circumstances. We do not have such an agreement with Turkey or Saudi Arabia who are already pushing forward clandestine nuclear programs of their own. Yeah nothing bad can happen when a bunch of illiterate monkeys who think the world is 6000 years old start building the most dangerous weapon on the planet.

None of this will be talked about with any real substance tonight. Instead it will be Romney floundering as he has been, throwing whatever he can at Obama and hopes that it will stick. Short of  a massive misstep from Obama, like admitting he really WAS born in Kenya, Romney has little chance at winning this debate or the election. At least God I hope so because four years of Romney all but guarantees the end of this nation and everyone in it. Remember that when you vote.

  1. HI, enjoy your blog, often agree with you, not always, no biggee.
Your comment about the repubs trying to close down the post office sounds as if you dont agree.
Do you know Lysander Spooner (from your state)? He competed with the the USPS in the 1840's by opening a mail delivery company. He did it better, cheaper and was profitable at it until the govt stepped in and drove him out of business. Fed Ex and UPS have proven private enterprise can outdo the govt in this area.
There is very, very little the govt can do better than private enterprise. Almost everything the govt does could be replaced by private enterprise. Thats all, keep up the writing, interesting and funny quite often.

  2. Glad you like my column and thank you for addressing your issue in a rational manner that doesn't include calling me a dirt munching, tree hugging druid. I appreciate that. Read some of the past comments I get to see some real winners. I agree that some issues are better run by business and some are better run by government. The Post Office would be running a profit if the GOP wasn't trying to run it out on a rail because they could make bigger profits that way. Private mail service is far more expensive than the one we have now so I see no need to replace it. The same goes for manning our military bases, which they do in Greenland now and trust me, I know someone who worked there for ten years and quit after it went private due to the horrendous conditions they insisted on. Our health care system should never be in private hands or government but combinations of the two work best on a world wide basis in countries like Japan or Denmark. This is probably best for all if have some quasi-symbiotic relationship for most businesses that offer protections to the workers through the government and allow the businesses to make a profit. Everyone wins in this scenerio. So the Post Office should continue and Fed Ex right along side of them. Changes will need to be made to make the Post Office solvent again like getting rid of that Union law that prevents the Post Office from ever firing anyone. Downsizing has to happen there as we no longer need as many mailmen. However, the PO should continue as it provides valuable services for the poorest in the nation. Thanks again for the comments and I hope you like what I continue to write.
